about

I am a PhD Candidate in History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh. My current research focuses on the use of the Middle Ages and the reuse of medieval European architectural elements in postmedieval contexts. I am currently writing my dissertation, titled “‘Rescued for America’: Medieval Fragments and the Construction of National Identity in the Bishop’s Garden of Washington National Cathedral, 1900–1940.”
Broadly, I am interested in how representations of the past, including medievalism and other kinds of historicism, function to redefine the past and inform the present, particularly with regard to modern ideas of nation and race.
In addition to my academic work, I am studying my family’s history and working to understand the complexities of my ancestors’ experiences as immigrants within the contexts of settler colonialism and Americanization in the United States.
In 2023–2024, I was in residence at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as a Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellow in the Department of Medieval Art and The Cloisters.
I am currently a Teaching Fellow in History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh as I work toward completing my dissertation.
